Life is all about perspective. Change it, and the world around you will start to change too. Tara Ijai, can certainly attest to this. As an American who converted to Islam later in life, she witnessed firsthand how her faith led others to treat her with intolerance and hate. Disheartened, she resorted to wearing a pair of heart-shaped glasses that she hoped would act as a shield against the negativity going on in the world around her.

I sat down with Tara Ijai to find out more about how she came to start the Love Glasses Revolution. It began with a meme her brother sent her in an effort to comfort her in 2015, at a time when hate crimes against Muslims were up 67% in the United States, and she was feeling unsafe in her headscarf. It took her on a path she never expected – inspiring thousands of “Love Rebels” around the world.

Tara Ijai lives in Phoenix Arizona with her husband and two sons and is the founding love rebel at Love Glasses Revolution. You will find her sporting her heart-shaped sunglasses and incessantly advocating for love, reminding herself and others that there is always a choice on how to show up. Tara believes love is an action word and that loving others has to start with loving self.

After the Walmart mass shooting, some local teachers made a social media request for their students, asking for people to send postcards with kind or loving words.One school got a lot more than expected.
More than 600 pair of heart shaped glasses were delivered to Hillside Elementary for every student and teacher.
The creator of the glasses said when people look through the glasses they’re making a pledge to see the good in the world and to be good to others.
“Love glasses revolution. Choosing to see the world with love.
It is so simple,” said Tara Ijai, the owner of Love Glasses Revolution.Ijai drove from Phoenix to deliver the sunglasses after reaching out to her community for donations.
